Maximize Your Sleeping Comfort

What is the best position for sleeping or lying down?

No matter what position you prefer to lie in, the pillow should be under your head, but not your shoulders. The pillow should be a thickness that allows your head to be in a comfortable position while keeping your neck in-line with your shoulders.

Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back β€” such as on your back with a pillow under your knees or a lumbar roll under your lower back. If you are a side sleeper, add in a pillow between your knees to keep your hips in line with your pelvis and spine. Avoid sleeping on your side with your knees curled to your chest, as it puts unnecessary pressure on your spine.

You may want to avoid sleeping on your stomach, especially with a soft mattress, because of the strain this adds to your back and can be tightening to your neck. Ideally, select a firm mattress and box spring set that does not sag. You can add a board under your mattress for added support. If you’re used to sleeping on a soft mattress, it may be painful to sleep on a firm mattress at first. Take your time in making the switch and finding the right mattress that fits your needs.
